Teriyaki Burgers
The 4th of July is still a few days away but you can not only make spectacular burgers to feed your family at your BBQ or picnic but you can make them today and have that part all ready for the 4th. You've got a lot of other stuff to do the day of. Why not get this part out of the way today? Brilliant!
Teriyaki Burgers
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, oil, garlic and ginger. Mix until sugar is dissolved. Add ground beef. Mix with your hands until completely mixed. Shape into 6 patties. Arrange in a gallon freezer bag with waxed paper between each burger. Label and freeze. 6 servings.
On the day of your BBQ or picnic, take these frozen burgers straight from the freezer to your ice chest. They should be at least partially thawed by the time it's picnic time and the coals are ready. Grill until cooked through. Be sure to take a can of pineapple rings with you and toss them on the grill, too. A lovely grilled pineapple ring atop a lovely grilled teriyaki burger....mmmmmmmm! Serve them on sesame seed buns with all the trimmings.
Oh...and of course, this recipe can be doubled or more, so you can make as many burgers as you like. Why not make more than you need so you'll have some ready to feed your family next time the pangs for a tasty teriyaki burger strikes. They'll keep for a few months if protected from freezer burn. Be sure to press as much air as possible out of the freezer bag. Wrap each burger separately in plastic wrap or a fold over sandwich bag before you put them in the gallon freezer bag, if you intend to leave them in the freezer for more than about 6 weeks.
Aren't these perfect for a 4th of July Celebration?! This recipe (and a lot more like it) is found in the book Lunch is Ready. (page 225)
