Simple Thousand Island Dressing Recipe

The best Thousand Island Dressing is the kind that is made fresh. After you've tasted this dressing you will never be able to enjoy that stuff from the bottle at the store again!

Start with your favorite ketchup. Once upon a time I thought, "oh, I'll save a few cents and get the cheapo ketchup." But it just isn't the same as when I make this dressing using my favorite ketchup. Heinz is the one!
Sweet pickle relish. Yum. I suppose you could use the dill pickle relish, if you prefer. I like the touch of sweetness. It is perfect in this dressing.
Mayonnaise. Use the real stuff. Use your favorite brand. I really love Miracle Whip but not in this recipe. The taste will be completely different if you don't use real Mayo.
Add a little sugar and whisk it all together. You don't need a blender. In fact, if you use a blender you'll demolish all the little "islands" (the pickle relish) and it will no longer be Thousand Island Dressing. You should probably count the bits of relish and make sure there are a thousand. eh eh eh. =)

Simple Thousand Island Dressing

1/2 cup ketchup
2 cups mayonnaise
1/2 cup sweet pickle relish
2 tablespoons sugar

Whisk all together and wait about 5 minutes for the sugar to dissolve. Whisk again. This dressing tastes best chilled so make it a little ahead. Makes about 3 cups.
